Crowns<\/h2>\n

In more complicated cases of aesthetic treatments or major tooth structure destruction, such as after a root canal, we install a crown on the tooth to restore its integrity and its initial strength. The preparation of the tooth is more important than in the case of a veneer, but we can correct much more complex cases. Traditionally, crowns were made of yellow gold, then came the crowns covered with acrylic and later porcelain. Nowadays, we try to use all-porcelain crowns to get an exceptionally cosmetic result<\/strong> with the strength and consistency of gold crowns.<\/p>\n

Bridge<\/span><\/h2>\n

A bridge is a structure cemented onto the remaining teeth to replace missing teeth. The supporting teeth, called pillars, are reduced in size to receive the structure. We use a gold frame for support and the outer layer is made of porcelain for aesthetic purposes. Complete porcelain bridges made without any metal can be made but they tend to fracture in extensive cases. A typical example of the use of bridges would be that of a young patient wearing partial dentures for several years but is not comfortable with them (often due to the fact that they must be removed at night).<\/p>\n

Bridges\u00a0allow a\u00a0stationary structure\u00a0to replace\u00a0the missing teeth. The\u00a0major problem with bridges is their\u00a0longevity, since the function\u00a0of the missing tooth\u00a0is distributed\u00a0on the two\u00a0pillars, the load-bearing teeth may developsome complications. These complications can be benign, such as\u00a0gingivitis\u00a0caused by the difficulty of cleaning\u00a0around the pillars,\u00a0the need for a root canal\u00a0because of the work\u00a0done\u00a0on the tooth;\u00a0or\u00a0the complications can become\u00a0more serious such as\u00a0a\u00a0root fracture\u00a0due\u00a0to\u00a0an excessive load.\u00a0If two teeth have to be replaced,\u00a0the longer bridge structure will have more complications\u00a0and\u00a0its longevity will decrease. Nowadays,\u00a0since there are other\u00a0more conservative options available, we increasingly\u00a0use implants to replace\u00a0missing teeth\u00a0without damaging the\u00a0adjacent teeth.<\/p>\n
